Another flyer for my church (I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) - this time for our annual Christmas event. Although, of course with it being 2020, this isn't really like our typical annual Christmas event at all.  But it's definitely a 2020-style event - drive-through party and drop-offs!

My mom, Inge, is a phenomenal artist, with watercolor being her favorite medium. I knew I wanted to use her artwork and I finally settled on two of her creations - a Santa and a bird with a snowman.

That was the easy part!  SHEESH, it took me HOURS to find fonts that worked with that Santa. In particular the main font for "Christmas." That absolutely beautiful Santa made the look sooooo elegant and pretty,  but I still needed to make the event seem casual and friendly and laid-back (i.e., not elegant!). After at least a dozen tries of my usual favorite script fonts, I finally created the rest of the flyer and then came back to the font for Christmas. And started trying out every script font I have (600+) starting with those beginning with "A." And then I hit upon a font called Hearty Morning and HALLELUJAH, there it was. The perfect, beautiful font to complement and play nicely with that beautiful Santa.  And, very thankfully, I think it paired well with the sort of old-fashioned typewriter-looking font for the rest of the text.

Of course Hearty Morning did NOT work for the scripture quote in the bottom left of the flyer and I had to find a different script for that one, and I don't particularly like the one I used, BUT after hours of looking at script fonts I finally capitulated and went with Black Jack (the beginning of the alphabet - lol!).  At the time of this entry, this flyer hasn't gone out yet and I suspect that font will be replaced by a better one before it's finalized and published and distributed because I know it will bother me!!

In the end (aside from the bottom left script font), I love this flyer and the kind of vintage and elegant but still fun and friendly feel that it ended up with. Watercolor just makes everything so pretty, doesn't it?
